When you think of Western Canada you think of winter. You think of the cold and the rain and the snow. What you may not realise is that a summer in the mountains of British Columbia and Alberta is like no other, there are so many activities to choose from, and it is breathtakingly beautiful! Here at Pure Powder we’ve picked out the Top 5 Activities for your Canadian summer holiday.
ONE. WHITE WATER RAFTING – This is a classic adventure activity in Western Canada. With an abundance of rivers and canyons this caters to all levels – from the family friendly to the more adventurous.
TWO. WILDLIFE TOUR – Canada is known for its wildlife, and while you’re likely to spot some chipmunks and squirrels and perhaps a deer, or if you’re lucky a bear from a long distance – the best way to guarantee you get a proper taste of the wildlife is to let the experts show you. They know where to find the wildlife and will do their best to make sure you see as much as possible!
THREE. KAYAKING – The lakes in western Canada are some of the most beautiful in the world. Why not get as close as possible and hire a kayak to experience the extreme blue glacial water for yourself? Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Peyto Lake and Emerald Lake are just a few of the many incredible lakes!
FOUR. MOUNTAIN BIKING – A great way to explore and have fun while doing so! There are multiple biking tracks around the national parks in AB/BC, and for the more extreme – Banff, Sun Peaks and Kicking Horse have downhill mountain biking in the summer. Watch out for the bears!
FIVE. HELI HIKING WITH CMH SUMMER ADVENTURES – You can access some great hiking trails throughout Western Canada, but if you want that true wilderness feeling of hiking in one of the most beautiful places in the world surrounded by nothing but endless mountains, then heli hiking with CMH is the way to go! Spend your days flying to some stunning spots, seeing glaciers, zip lining and climbing via ferratas, then head back to the heli accessed lodge for a massage and relax in the hot tub.
